SUPERVISOR
TERRORISM. PROGRAM
UNADDRESSED WORK
This memorandum is classified "secret" in its
entirety.
: A review of recent closed and pending terrorist
cases involving the IRA,. the PIRA,·and NORAID indicates
that there is some activity worthy of investigation in'
the Albany Division.
There is a chapter of NORAID in the
Division which is long recognized as a fund raising arm
: for Irish Terrorist activities. Also we have numerous
contact cases_arising out of the visits by people from
this area fro imprisoned. IRA terrorists, phone calls to
this area from IRA. terrorists, and, information from Irish
and, British authorities on activities in this area.
There
is a particular concentration of apparent Irish activities
in the community of East Durham, New York which has a high
concentration of Irish Americans.
At .the. present time due to lack of available
manpower these cases are being assigned to SA,
+ whose primary responsibilities are as the PLA and aiso
to work civil rights cases in. Albany. Headquarters.
Most
of the international terrorism resources
in this division
are presently being .assigned to work the·
investigations out of Burlington, Vermont.
' Albany is stiil affording lead coverage to offices
and is conducting. superficial background investigations
