IRISH NORTHERN AID COMMITTEE UNITED IRISH APPEAL International Terrorism Northern Ireland

to the Irish Republican cause, fund raising, nets an average of $300, 000 to $500 , 000 each Year to the commingled network of funding for AN CUMAN CABHRACH , SINN FEIN and the PROVISIONAL IRA_

Investigation by the NYO has shown that UNITED IRISH APPEAL (UIA) was created as an off-shoot of NORAID during 1992Ihe purpose behind the development of the organization was twofold:

To create an appendage to NORAID which would have an image more closely associated with that of promoting peace , rather than of militant support (as NORAID is most popularly known in the US) and

2 have in place an organization which would have "tax-exempt status" with the US Internal Revenue Service, allowing contributors to the organization to "write-off" their donations as deductions on their federal income taxes _

NORAID hoped that creating UIA in this manner they would be to increase fund raising for the republican cause by attracting wealthier and more powerful Irish-Americans At the same time, they would be enhancing the political image of the organization
