law fixm of o'Dwyer & Bernstien, and the Nationai Lawyers Guild
in. We were also benefited by the genius of Cathy Bennat of
Texas.
I now appeal to all conccrncd to transiate all their
enthusiasm, genius and sense of committment into a concentrated
effort of support for our comrades yet to stand trial, because they.
refused to remain neutral while their countrymen hungered to death
for justice in protcst against the naked rule of 'British bayonets.
We are part of the vanguard of the struggle of humanity
now and if we can maintain the intensity of united effort then the
day will soon dawn when the foul and obscene policy of collabora-
tion of our government with the criminal British and with their
fellow criminals wiil end and a free Ireland will emerge from all
the pain, suffering and torture of the centuries.
Whenit doesI
hope that Bernadette Devlin McAiiskey wiil emerge as its first Prime
Minister and that she will welcome to Ireland our splendid defense
team and the jury whose sense of duty and courage I again salute.
The xespect I feel for them is matched by the contempt extended to
the government specail agents Stephens, colletan, Winslow, Auid,
Schwartz, Evans, who baited Irish people and ravaged their homes
with their sniff dogs in the interests of Maggie Thatcher. I rec-
commend them and pro-British Kirby for the position of screws in
H-Block.
'Regardless of the intragisence of those individuals, it
is my wish that any of the wounds they have inflicted on: our peopie
wiil not produce permanent scars between Ireland and America. I
trust that the help extended to us by the National Lawyers Guild,
the Cardoza Law School students, in the recent trial,.the splendid
and untiring fund raising effort of I.N.A. for so many years, and
by our defense committee wiil serve as the connecting links between
the two countries until British influence ends and then we wiil ail
be happy again.
In the meantime may the spirit' of Bobby Sands and his
fellow martyrs in ail lands animate us with the strength to carry
on until we achieve peace, freedom and justice for the people of
this world whether they be black, white, yellow or brown.
Sincerely.
